French Empire Couch c.1820

Remarkable French Empire couch with original covers c.1820. Walnut frame with curving arms. Extensive and fine quality pierced brass mounts to the backrest, arms and front legs featuring Classical inspired anthemion and acanthus motifs. The Classical theme is continued in the decoration of the heavy woven cloth covers which are believed to be original, a rare feature. Raised on brass paw feet to the front legs. Missing some portions of the brass mounts on the sides of the arm terminals. Some marks and wear to the covers which do however remain serviceable. Frames have been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
