Pair of Walnut Open Armchairs c.1880.

Splendid pair of late 19th.c. French walnut open armchairs c.1880. Shapely moulded frames in solid walnut with curved oval backrests and open arms over sprung seats. Carved detail to the arm terminals raised on swept supports flowing gracefully into the shaped front legs, the sinuous design continuing across the apron below the seat. Raised on the original turned wooden castors. Upholstered in a deep red velvet with brass studs. Original maker’s label to the underside. A few old knocks to the frame, most obvious is a small piece missing from the outer edge of one of the arm terminals. Otherwise very good condition, solid and sturdy, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
