Pair of Small Burr Walnut Chests of Drawers with Fold-Over Tops

Unusual pair of little George I style bachelor's chests of drawers c.1980. Just 24" wide, ideal as bedsides or as lamp tables either side of a sofa perhaps. Tops with symmetrically arranged burr walnut veneers within herringbone inlaid and crossbanded mahogany borders, with moulded edges and a shaped detail to the corners. Open the tops to form a useful work surface (24" x 30") with both leaves also veneered in burr walnut, the folding leaf supported on two sliding loafers below. Four drawers of graduated height, the drawer fronts also veneered inlaid and crossbanded to match, with cockbeaded edges and matching Georgian pattern brass handles with attractive pierced backplates. Canted and reeded front corners to the cabinets and walnut veneered sides. Ogee base mouldings and shaped bracket feet. Hardwood drawer sides. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
