Moorish Style Hall Stand c.1930

Extraordinary Moorish style hall stand c.1930. Seven large brass hooks for hats and coats etc decorated with a star and crescent (symbol of the Ottoman empire and found nowadays on the flags of Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Turkey and Pakistan). Bevelled mirror at the centre shaped as a Mughal arch, over a small table with a glove drawer below and flanked on each side with crisply cast brass stays for sticks and umbrellas, with removable metal drip trays in the base. Dense Islamic style carving across the frame with a dedication to Allah at the centre of the frieze below the cornice, pierced arches above the mirror and mashrabiya panels below. Note how the shape of the mirror is repeated in the apron below the drawer. Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
