Metamorphic Lectern Side Table c.1840
Ingenious mid 19th.c. mahogany metamorphic side table c.1840. Single piece solid mahogany table top with a thumb moulded edge. The top is hinged to become a slope with a folding support behind and a raised lip with brass page stays (neatly stored below the top when not in use) can be inserted to hold a book or papers. The top is also height adjustable from 28" - 52", ideal as a lectern or music stand. Unusually it also retains the two original paddle-shaped candle stands at the sides. On a telescopic pedestal with original locking screw within an octagonal section column with a moulded base. Raised on a shaped plinth and turned bun feet. Some obvious old wear and scratches to the top. Otherwise excellent colour and condition, sturdy and useable. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
