Chinoiserie Lacquered Fire Surround c.1910

Unusual Chinoiserie lacquered fire surround c.1910. Wooden fire surround with a 7" deep mantelpiece and 38" x 38" aperture. Moulded cornice and dentil frieze over a moulded surround with carved scrolling foliage and harebell garlands at the sides. Decorated with oriental figures, landscape elements and plants in raised lacquerwork with hand painted against a black ground. Additional leaf, Greek key and trellis detail in gold paint, which is also used to highlight the mouldings. Presented as found, an extra 1½" depth appears to have been added to the rear edge of the surround at the top and sides (could be removed if preferred). Very good condition with only minor wear to the paintwork.
