Welsh Oak Box Settle c.1780

Georgian Welsh oak box settle c.1780. High backrest with three large raised and fielded panels with simple thumb moulded detail to the surrounding rails and mullions. Between angled rear stiles with rounded tops. Shaped arms with rounded ends raised on square front stiles. Board seat with two hinged panels lifting on brass hinges to reveal useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Oak panelled front, sides and back to the base with an applied moulding around the bottom edge and oak floor boards. Good early timbers with very attractive colour and patina. Previous repairs to the bottom of each stile. Otherwise excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
