18th.c. Oak Dresser Base c.1740
Mid 18th.c.oak dresser base c.1740. Two plank top (note the mirrored grain on the two boards) with an applied moulded edge. Over three good sized drawers with large Georgian pattern pierced brass handles and escutcheon plates. Note the grooves in the sides of the drawers to accommodate the drawer runners, a feature of early cabinet making. Decorative turned half spindles flanking the drawers and a deep ogee moulded trim around the bottom edge. Raised on excellent turned front legs, repeated (unusually) as a half turning applied to the front of the rear stiles. Slight shrinkage gap between the boards on the top and some earlier repairs. Otherwise very good condition and colour. Restored cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
