Pair of Louis XVI Style Giltwood Armchairs with Original Tapestry Covers c.1880

Fabulous pair of late 19th.c. Louis XVI style giltwood armchairs c.1880. Fine giltwood frames with crisp carved detail and the original gilded finish. Backrests, arm pads and sprung seats retaining their original and beautifullt detailed Aubusson tapestry covers. Featuring images of children playing with boulle and a spinning top on the backs whilst the seats feature two scenes from the fables of the 17th-century French poet Jean de La Fontaine; The Wolf and the Lamb and The Wolf and the Stork. Each of the scenes within a border of swagged cloth and floral garlands and signed in the weave. Raised on tapering turned and fluted legs front and rear. Presented as found, the tapestry a little faded and with obvious wear to the gilding but otherwise in very good condition, solid and sturdy and firm springs in the seats.
