Very Large Oil Painting by Arthur Lambrecht c.1950

Very large framed painting of a group of carousing men and women in oil on canvas by the Belgian artist Arthur Lambrecht (1904-1983) c.1950. Standing very nearly six feet tall (canvas size 47" x 59). A man dances with a drink in hand, a couple embrace behind him and other figures drink and cheer and clap. A young man in the lower right hand corner gazes at us out of the picture. Note the wheat straw in his mouth suggesting the scene may be of harvest labourers celebrating the end of their work. With village houses in the background. Painted in muted colours in bold brushwork to superb expressive effect in the faces of each figure. Clearly signed in the lower left of the canvas. Presented in a simple moulded wooden frame with textured and gilded finish over a red ground.
