Oak & Mahogany Mule Chest c.1810

Early 19th.c. Cheshire mule chest in oak and mahogany c.1810. Lift the lid to reveal storage for blankets etc, internal height 12″, plus a small compartment with a hinged lid (which forms a stay for the main lid when open) behind the the top row of dummy drawer fronts. With two rows of working drawers below. A particularly good example of the form with decorative mahogany crossbanding to the top and front. Note the unusual ogee shaped detail at the corners. Period brass swan neck handles. Flanked at the front with turned and fluted quarter columns with a charming inlaid detail of flowers in a vase to the blocks below. Raised and fielded oak side panels. Shapely bracket feet front and rear. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
