Mahogany Windsor Armchair Attributed to Birch & Co c.1900
Exceptional quality Windsor style desk armchair in mahogany attributed to Birch & Co c.1900. High back with a curved and shaped crest rail with gadrooned top flanked with carved rosettes. Raised on turned spindles either side of a baluster silhouette splat with carved scallop detail at the centre. Curving arms with moulded tops and scrolling terminals also on turned spindles. Over a beautifully shaped single piece saddle seat. Cabriole front legs with raised pad feet and joined with turned H stretchers. Stamped B35 on the underside of the seat. Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Birch & Co. were pioneers in the use of imported timbers for the creation of high class versions of the traditional Windsor chair which were retailed at Liberty & Co London.
