Large Alabaster Bust of Joan of Arc by Pugi c.1910

Impressive carved alabaster bust of Joan of Arc in medieval dress by the Italian sculptor Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915) c.1910. Beautifully sculpted head an shoulders length bust of Joan in medieval cap with long side pieces and a high lace gorget or throat cloth, with her head turned to one side an eyes raised to the horizon. Grey veined alabaster or marble tunic with gilded buttons. Note the unusual carved bird's wings at the front of the plinth. Signed Pugi on the rear. Excellent condition.
