Reclining Easy Armchair c.1880

Splendid mahogany framed easy armchair or library chair with an unusual reclining mechanism c.1880. Button upholstered backrest and padded arms raised on turned spindles over a generously proportioned sprung seat (height 16"). Turning the knobs at the front of the armrests allows the backrest to recline on hinged brass stays. Turned front legs (repeating the design of the arm supports) and swept rear legs on brown pot castors. Worn but serviceable upholstery in an aubergine coloured chenille. Otherwise very good condition, sturdy frame and mechanism, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
The reclining mechanism featured in this chair was registered by the Landsdown Brothers of Bath in 1881.
