Walnut Marble Top Commode c.1880

Good looking late 19th.c. French walnut and marble top commode c.1880. Original black marble top with canted corners, a moulded edge and scores of beautiful white fossils embedded within. Over four drawers of graduated height, not how the larger bottom drawer extends into the plinth. Highly figured walnut veneers arranged to make a striking symmetrical pattern across the front. Brass handles to the centre of each drawer. Canted corners and a moulded plinth raised on low pads, shaped to match. Solid walnut sides, oak drawer linings. Some sort of spilt acidic liquid seems to have damaged the very surface of the marble in places. Otherwise excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
