Louis XVI Style Parquetry & Marble Top Commode
Very smart French Louis XVI style marble top commode c.1960. Highly figured marble top with projecting front corners, shaped sides and a moulded edge over three drawers. Spectacular geometric patterned parquetry work in tulipwood veneers across the drawer front and sides with inlaid borders and crossbanded surround. Pretty inlaid marquetry panel across the centres of the two larger drawers, featuring garden tools and flower garlands. Brass laurel wreath handles and decorative brass mounts to the shoulders (front and rear) and also to the centre below the drawers. Shaped sides and canted front corners to match the top. Raised on short square tapering legs, veneered and inlaid to match and with further brass mounts and feet front and rear. With an old repair to the marble (well hidden in the grain) and some minor repairs to the veneers. Otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
