French Empire Mahogany Commode c.1810
Early 19th.c. French Empire mahogany commode c.1810. Black marble top with hundreds of tiny white fossils embedded within the stone. Over a chest of three large drawers. Matched veneers (on oak groundwork) to the drawer fronts with gilded brass lion's mask handles and leaf pattern escutcheons. Flanked with moulded square column pilasters to the front and raised on splendid Classical Egyptian inspired carved claw feet. Mahogany veneered sides. Oak drawer linings. Some scratches to the marble, otherwise excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
