Oil Painting of Veurne c.1970

Mid 20th.c. oil on canvas of the Flemish city of Veurne by the Belgian artist Robert Desmarets (1924-2009) c.1970. A young girl holds the hand of an older woman as they walk through backstreets toward the city's famous Gothic belfry on the market square. Painted in thick oils in a restricted palette of browns, rust reds and green. With a clear signature in the lower right hand corner. Presented unframed on a simple wooden stretcher. Excellent condition.
