Oil on canvas painting of figures in a landscape c.1900. Set beside a rushing river between rocks and trees a woman and child in historial dress meet a travelling Franciscan monk in his distinctive brown habit. With a bridge and Italianate buildings beyond and mountains in the background. Painted in rather naive style, note the skewed perspective of the bridge compared to the buildings. Presented as found, in good original condition, though would doubtless benefit from a clean, unframed on a simple wooden stretcher.
