Large Chinese Carved and Gilded Archway Panels c.1800

Remarkable 19th.c. Chinese carved and gilded archway panels c.1800. In three sections, the top measuring nine feet in length, to form a large archway which would have originally formed the front of an elaborate Chinese alcove bed, possibly made for European export. Can be mounted flat on the wall or used to great effect around a doorway or window perhaps. Beautifully carved in high relief from camphorwood as a trellis of curving branches with leaves and large flower heads amongst which are perched several small birds. Fabulous antique character with the original gilding worn and rubbed through in places to reveal the red ground below, left dry and unwaxed. A few minor repairs, generally very good original condition.
