Faux Bamboo Marble Top Chest of Drawers c.1890
Late 19th.c. faux bamboo pine and marble top chest of drawers c.1890. Original white marble top with a shallow groove toward the front edge designed to catch any drips of split water from a wash bowl. Over a chest of four long drawers of graduated height. In pine with simulated bamboo decoration to the drawer fronts reflecting the fashion for Japanese art and design in the period. The front stiles are also turned to imitate bamboo and the decoration continues on the sides. Original turned drawer knobs. Stamped with the maker's mark EB below the marble. Small chip to the rear left hand corner of the marble. Otherwise excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
