Exceptional Inlaid Coromandel Canterbury c.1860

Exceptional quality canterbury and side table in coromandel with fabulous inlaid detail in the manner of Owen Jones c.1860. Two open shelves over a canterbury or book rack with X shape dividers, plus a single drawer in the base. Veneered in beautifully figured coromandel with a brass gallery to the top shelf with delightful heart-shaped pierced detail, mahogany and ebony inlaid borders, ivory stringing and ebonised mouldings. Raised on turned columns with fine inlaid stringing all round, turned finial tops and moulded and ebonised elements. The inlay continues on the ends of the canterbury and reaches a crescendo with the superb Classical Greek inspired detail on all four sides of the plinth and on the projecting corners. Raised on short turned feet with wooden castors. Missing a few small pieces of the curved moulding from around the underside where the columns join the top shelf. Generally excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
