Chinese Carved and Inlaid Bench c.1890

Remarkable Chinese carved and inlaid hardwood bench or hall seat c.1900. Useful small size, just 52" wide. Crisply carved and pierced top rail featuring two splendid Chinese dragons. Over a back panel inlaid with mother of pearl to create a highly detailed scene of figures in a landscape with trees and temple buildings. Note also the carved and pierced spandrels to the backrest. Pearl inlaid arms over sides which are also carved as dragons, the heads forming the arm supports. Board seat (height 15") with inlays to the shaped front rail, over a carved apron and legs with further inlays. Note how the carvings are continued on the rear of the bench which also has a large floral design inlay. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
