Carved Oak Box Settle c.1890

Late 19th.c. renaissance revival carved oak box settle or hall seat c.1890. Backrest panel carved with a Classical inspired design of sea horses and acanthus leaves set within a carved frame. Curving and moulded arms with scrolling ends and dolphin's head terminals on carved supports. Over a board seat with a carved edge, lifting to reveal useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Elaborately carved base with grotesque winged beasts within a frame of pointed arches and lunettes. Carved sides panels, deep ogee moulding around the base. Solid oak back and floor boards. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
