Arts & Crafts Coal Box c.1890

Arts & Crafts oak purdonium or coal box c.1890. The front swings open to reveal a removable galvanized liner, originally intented for coal but ideal for kindling, firelighters etc for a log burner. 19″ wide overhanging top with canted front corners. Over a flared base with beautifully inlaid front panel in contrasting timbers against an oak ground. Arts & Crafts pattern copper handles to the front and sides. Shaped detail between the feet at the front and sides. Excellent conditon, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
