Painting of Antwerp

Good sized painting of the Belgian city of Antwerp c.1980. Below a heavy sky the tightly packed buildings of the old city are pictured across the river Scheldt, with small boats crowded on the far bank. The skyline is dominated by the extraordinary Gothic bell tower of the city's great cathedral. Painted as a paler silhouette to the right of centre is the Boerentoren tower, the city's first high rise, completed in 1932. Painted in thick oils and gouache on canvas, signed in the lower right hand corner. Good condition, presented on a wooden stretcher.
