Marble Top Giltwood Console Table c.1880

Late 19th.c. marble top and giltwood console table c.1880. Original grey marble top with projecting portions in line with the legs and a thumb moulded edge. Giltwood base with a guilloche frieze and superb laurel leaf swags. Fluted turned and tapering legs joined with a low curving stretcher which carries a Classical urn at the centre flanked with carved flower garlands. Original gilding with some retouching and rubbed through in places to reveal the red ground and the white gesso below. With an old repaired break running front to back across the marble, solid and well disguised in the grain.
