Mahogany Secretaire Abattant c.1830
Early 19th.c. French mahogany and marble top secretaire abattant or writing bureau c.1830. Open the fall to reveal a writing desk (height 30½"″) with original tooled leather writing surface and a fine fitted interior featuring an open bookshelf, five small stationery drawers and a long drawer below plus two small secret compartments opening with sprung catches. Inlaid satinwood drawer fronts with the original gilded brass knobs and solid mahogany drawer linings. Grey marble top and a long frieze drawer above the bureau and a cupboard below with a shelf and a drawer inside, plus another drawer hidden in the plinth. Beautifully figured flame mahogany veneers laid in a striking symmetrical pattern across the front and continued on the sides. Note the original large brass locks and inlaid escutcheons. Raised on turned bun feet. Oak back panels. Excellent colour and condition. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
