Oak Bible Box Dated 1666

Good example of the classic 17th.c. oak bible box. Hinged and sloped lid with a moulded edge. Over an attractive and original foliate carved frieze to the front. Iron hinges and lockplate. Solid oak sides, back and floor. Chip carved carved corners and a shallow shelf with a moulded edge inside. Scratch carved on the top of the box with a monogram featuring the initials T A H and the date 1666 (year of the great fire of London). Missing the hasp from the lock, otherwise very good condition. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
