Pair of Chestnut Settles c.1820

Unusual pair of early 19th.c. settles in Chestnut c.1820. Tall backrests with turned finials and three arched panels over board seats which lift to reveal a shallow storage space below (internal height 3½"), for books perhaps. With Swept arms on octagonal column supports between each seat. Raised on four tapering legs front and rear. Particularly well figured timber with a swirl to the grain very similar to elm. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
