Pair of 1969 Prince of Wales Investiture Chairs
A rare pair of the famous red chairs produced for the investiture ceremony of the Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) at Caernarfon castle on July 1st 1969. Striking mid-century modern design, in vermillion stained beech and bent plywood, the gilded three feathers motif is cleverly impressed onto the back rest to prevent wear to the gilding. Date stamp on the underside. Presented as found, one of the chairs has been recovered in a well chosen red tweed whilst the other retains it's unusually well preserved original seat pad and cover. Both chairs are in excellent condition.
