Long 18th.c. Inlaid Italian Chest c.1760

Superb mid 18th.c. Italian pine Cassone or marriage chest c.1760. Six feet long, panelled lid sturdy enough to use as a seat, with moulded sides and a carved front edge. Exceptional decorative front with four moulded arch panels featuring lovely inlaid marquetry detail in various contrasting timbers. Plus remarkable parquetry inlay to the surrounding vertical and horizontal elements. Original steel lockplate, lock and key and original iron strap hinges. Hardwood moulding around the base and turned bun feet front and rear. Some obvious old wear to the exterior and missing the original fitted compartments inside. Otherwise very good condition and excellent colour. Solid and sturdy with great rustic character. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
