Large Terracotta Figure by Goldscheider c.1900

Large painted terracotta figure by the celebrated Austrian makers Goldscheider c.1900. Standing 33" tall, full length figure of a young woman with long hair framing a rather downcast expression and wearing a long dress with a pink ribbon tied around her waist and low shoes. Leaning against a short plinth with her hands crossed in front of her. Particularly good treatment of the hair and folds of the fabric. Original painted finish. Signed J. Mercadier in the clay between her feet and stamped with the factory mark of Frederich Goldscheider together with the serial numbers 1648 192 53. Some scratches to the paint surface on the face, repairs around the bottom edge of the base and to the little finger on the lower hand. Otherwise very good condition.
