Large Oil Painting on Canvas by Maurice Rouchy Dated 1942

Large painting in oil on canvas by the Belgian artist Maurice Rouchy (1898-1975). In a winter landscape under a leaden grey sky a modest white house stands amongst trees, two apparently having been recently pollarded. Signed and dated in the lower right hand corner of the canvas. Signed again on the reverse together with the artist's address and the poignant title 'La maison de la veuve' (The house of the widow) 1942. Interesting to note the wartime context of this rather cheerless scene. Presented as found, in very good condition in a moulded wooden frame with paper label from a Bruges gallery attached.
