Arts & Crafts Oak Sideboard by Liberty & Co. c.1900
Superb Art & Crafts sideboard in oak by the celebrated makers and retailers Liberty & Co. of London c.1900. Known as the Culloden sideboard and attributed to the company’s great head of design Leonard Wyburd. Separate top with display shelves featuring chamfered and notched arch canopies either side of a small cupboard with a leaded panel of green glass pontils. The base features a single drawer and two cupboards, with a single shelf in the larger left hand cupboard. Tapering sides and a dramatically overhanging top, original beaten copper handles and long strap hinges with pointed spade shaped ends, all typical and distinctive elements of Wyburd’s designs for Liberty. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
An identical sideboard is illustrated on page 207 of the book Liberty's Furniture 1875-1915 The Birth of Modern Interior Design by Daryl Bennet.
