Large Carved Oak Coffer c.1760

Impressive 18th.c. oak chest or coffer c.1760. Five feet long, with a flat (rather than panelled top) made from two solid oak boards with a moulded edge and rounded corners. Study enough to sit on as a hall bench. Lid opening on iron strap hinges to reveal lots of storage space inside plus a small compartment to the right hand side. Particularly attractive front with four carved panels and a lovely carved top rail with large iron lockplate. Moulded rails and mullions continued on the sides and (unusually) rear. Oak back panels and floorboards. Some old marks to the top, generally excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
