Large Carved Oak Sideboard c.1880

Extraordinary late 19th.c. 'Tudorbethan' style carved oak sideboard c.1880. Top of 1½" thick solid oak boards with cleated ends and an unusual carved leaf pattern edge. Over three drawers and three cupboards (internal depth 17½"). Drawer and door fronts carved in high relief with superb Renaissance style grotesques, winged dragons and acanthus leaves. The carving continues on the pilasters and on the side panels which feature a Tudor rose. Ebonised carved surrounds to the door panels and broad half-round mouldings running below the top and above and below the doors. Raised on a moulded plinth. With a couple of cleverly hidden secret compartments accessible only when the drawers are removed. Solid oak drawer linings, backboards and floor. Some old marks to the top, otherwise excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
