Gothic Oak Wall Shelves with Painted Panels c.1900

Remarkable Gothic oak wall shelves c.1900. Open shelves (depth 7½") either side of a central niche and a small cupboard. Fine carved and pierced detail to the niche with a pointed trefoil arch, blind and pierced tracery highlighted in gold over turned columns with carved capitals. The door below the niche features a small Renaissance style oil painting of Christ on canvas and decorative metal work carrying the inscription 'Pax Meis' against a gilded background, plus an elaborate pierced lockplate and catch. Twist carved fronts to the sides of the bookshelves at the corners of which are circular painted panels featuring medieval style winged angels and beasts set within decorative metalwork frames. Chamfered and moulded fronts to the shelves. Original metal fixings at the top of the sides. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. The spacing of the middle shelves could be altered if preferred.
