Figure of a Warrior with Winged Victory c.1880

Splendid late 19th.c. Neoclassical sculpture of a warrior with winged victory c.1880. Cast in spelter with bronze finish as a Classical warrior in loincloth and turban protecting with his sword a female winged angel or goddess who is about to place a laurel wreath (the Roman symbol of Victory) upon his head. Signed C. Mercie in the cast, the artist is unknown but the piece bears striking similarities to the bronze Gloria Victis by the celebrated French sculptor Antonin Mercie. Very good condition.
