Carved Oak Throne Chair c.1860

Very impressive 19th.c. carved oak throne style porter's chair incorporating earlier carved elements c.1860. Six feet tall back with a dental moulded cornice. Superb 18th.c. carved main panel featuring grotesque beasts over the head of a man wearing an unusual knotted headscarf. Set within a carved surround and flanked with deep reeded column pilasters. Straight arms with moulded front and outer edges raised on turned baluster supports over the board seat (height 22") which lifts to reveal useful storage space below. Very well carved Renaissance style panel below the seat featuring a grotesque mask, swagged cloth and scrolling foliage. Oak panelled sides and rear between very sturdy square stiles. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
