Burr Walnut Secretaire Commode c.1880

Late 19th.c French burr walnut and marble top secretaire commode c.1880. Original black marble top with scores of tiny fossils embedded within and rounded edges. Over four drawers, the top drawer opening to form a useful writing desk (height 32"). With a tooled tan leather work surface, pigeon hole and three small drawers, and a gallery of turned spindles at the sides, all in mahogany with fine inlaid detail. Highly figured burr walnut veneers laid in a spectacular symmetrical pattern across the front, with a moulded border around the three main drawers, turned escutcheons and a moulded plinth. Solid walnut sides and oak drawer bases. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops, keys supplied.
