Biedermeier Mahogany Sideboard c.1830

Superb early 19th.c. Biedermeier sideboard, probably German, c.1830. Two door cupboard at the centre with unusual concave front and fitted inside with graduated shelves. Flanked by taller pedestals, each with a single drawer over a cupboard door and fitted with shelves inside the left hand side and drawers to the right. Note the extra deep bottle drawer with original (removable) dividers. Typical of the Biedermeier style there is minimum applied decoration allowing attention to focus instead on the exceptional flame mahogany veneers which are laid in a symmetrical pattern across the tops, drawers and door fronts (continued on the internal drawers also) which are also beautifully shaped and moulded. Carved acanthus detail to the tops of the faux columns flanking the pedestals and with carved escutcheons to the drawer fronts. Very unusually the top of the centre section is hinged, lifting to make a raised back with two slim folding shelves for glasses etc. with a folding server below (depth 52"). Raised on the crisp turned front feet and attractively carved blocks at the rear. Oak lined drawers and cupboards with oak shelves. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Original locks, keys supplied.
