Art Deco Oak Box Settle c.1930
Unusual Art Deco oak box settle or hall seat, probably Canadian, c.1930. Tall backrest, slightly curved at the top, with a large raised motif at the centre and carved acanthus and flower garlands to the tops of the stiles. Shaped arms also carved with acanthus leaves at the front. Over a low board seat (height 15"), hinged to reveal useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Raised on shaped feet. Note how the timbers are quarter sawn to form medullary rays, also featured on the inside and rear. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
