Aesthetic Movement Chiffonier Attributed to Bruce Talbert c.1870
Remarkable late 19th.c. Aesthetic Movement or Reformed Gothic walnut side cabinet attributed to Bruce Talbert for Gillows c.1870. Raised back with a single slim shelf and pierced sides over a small sideboard with canted ends. Slim drawer and a two door cupboard flanked on each side with open shelves over a potboard display shelf below. Of singular design with beautiful painted and gilded leather panels typical of furniture by the Scottish designer Bruce Talbert. Note the hand painted face of a woman with medieval style crown and headdress at the centre. Gilded frieze across the top of the raised back and the use of gilding to highlight mouldings across piece. Geometric pierced canopy and shaped apron above the open sides. Scores of turned spindles to the top and base, their shape echoed in the turned front legs with flared feet. Excellent condition, retaining the original Gothic pattern brass handles. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied. Unsigned but with a serial number stamped on the underside of the drawer front.
