18th.c. Welsh Oak Box Settle c.1750

Mid 18th.c. Welsh oak box settle or hall seat c.1750. Low back with four raised and fielded panels with ogee mouldings to the surrounding rails and mullions. Shaped arms on lovely turned and tapering columns supports. Seat made from two long oak boards (height 19"), the front lifting on hinges to reveal useful storage below for boots and shoes etc, with an internal partition which also serves to reinforce the seat. Flat oak panels to the front, sides and rear of the base. Applied moulding to the bottom edge at the front. Note the pegged construction. Some previous repairs and restorations with later pine floorboards and feet. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
