17th.c. Oak Box Settle c.1690
Fabulous late 17th.c. carved oak box settle c.1690. Over six feet in length. High panelled backrest topped with pointed finials and carved with a dense grape and vine pattern. The carving to the top rail, the stiles and the row of slim panels across the top is original, whilst the carving on the vertical mullions and the larger panels probably dates from the 19th.c. Large shaped arms with supports shaped as a repeat of the finials. Board seat with two hinged sections lifting to reveal plenty of storage below for shoes and boots etc. Handmade iron hinges. Six flat panels across the front below the seat between chamfered mullions. Panelled sides and rear, oak floorboards. Excellent condition and particularly good colour and patina. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
