Anglo-Indian Carved Walnut Wine Table c.1890

Exceptionally well carved late 19th.c. walnut side table probably from Shrinagar in Kashmir c.1890. Octagonal top with a broad border carved in high relief with grape and vines, roses and the leaves of the Chinar tree (similar to maple leaves) a great symbol of Kashmiri culture and heritage. These motifs stand against a background densely carved with the tiniest detail. Note also the Mogul style shaped edge to the table top with its snake skin effect detail. Octagonal base also profusely carved with matching detail and with a shaped arch at the foot. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
