Mahogany Sofa Table by Gordon & Watson of Ayr c.1830
Fine quality Regency era mahogany sofa table by the Scottish cabinet makers Gordon & Watson of Ayr c.1830. Mahogany veneered and rosewood crossbanded top, on solid mahogany groundwork, with reeded edges and two folding leaves held on hinged loafers. Over two slim drawers to both sides with cockbeaded fronts and brass knobs. Raised on elegant tapering supports with ebonised mouldings and inlaid detail over swept and reeded legs with brass feet featuring an unusual palmate detail with castors below. With no joining stretcher between the legs making this table ideal for use as a writing desk. Mahogany drawer linings and a lovely original paper maker's label. Some old marks to the top, otherwise excellent condition and good mellow colour. Simply cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
