Portrait of Mrs Allan Maconochie of Meadowbank & Son after Sir Henry Raeburn c.1800
Large early 19th.c. portrait in oil on canvas of a young woman and child c.1800. The painting appears to be a copy of 'Portrait of Mrs Allen Maconochie of Meadowbank & Son' attributed to the great Scottish portrait painter Sir Henry Raeburn which is in collection of The Louvre Paris. Three quarters length portrait of the sitter in wonderful late Georgian Empire style dress with her child on her knee. With a dark landscape of trees and sky in the background. Presented as found on a wooden stretcher, quite heavily crazed with some damage in the upper right hand corner.
Allen Maconachie, Lord Meadowbank (1748-1816) was a Scottish advocate and judge. He married Elizabeth Welwood in 1774 and had four sons. The Meadowbank estate was in Kirknewton, Midlothian.
