Small Louis XV Style Parquetry Commode c.1910
Beautiful little French Louis XV style marble top commode c.1910. Useful small size, just 32½" wide. Original inch-thick marble top with serpentine shaped and moulded edges. Over a bombe shaped chest of two drawers. Superb tulipwood parquetry work decoration to the front and sides, with a walnut veneered central cartouche and crossbanded borders. Large gilded ormolu handles and escutcheons and long gilded mounts to the front corners of the cabinet, continuing down to the front feet. Shaped and crossbanded apron, continued at the sides, with a pierced and gilded mount at the centre, flowing into shaped legs front and rear. Makers stamps for R. Alpsteg to the top of the cabinet beneath the marble. Oak drawer linings and panelled rear. Some minor damage to the veneers, otherwise excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
